AWS Amplify Studio for Low-Code Development

AWS Amplify Studio

Low-code development is becoming popular in the coding world. It helps develop customized applications configured to address businesses' exact needs and challenges.

In the wake of the popularity of low code, AWS launched Amplify Studio. The studio is basically a visual interface intended to simplify backend- and front development for mobile as well as web apps. AWS Amplify Studio includes a large set of useful features and tools to assist software developers in configuring AWS services faster and more easily. In addition, the studio supports many backend use cases, such as real-time data, user authentication, and file storage.

Amazon introduced Amplify Studio as a preview during re-Invent 2021. Its general availability (GA) release now offers access to new features, including support for user interface (UI) event handlers and component theming. It also facilitates improvement that allows developers to extend and customize generated components from code. Developers can also override some pre-built components in Amplify Studio using the AWS Cloud Development Kit.

Integration with Figma

AWS Amplify Studio

Now, this is one of the most highlighted features of AWS Amplify Studio. Figma is a web-based graphics editor compatible with Mac and Windows versions. Figma is also available as a mobile app for iOS and Android.

In addition, by using Figma integration, front-end developers and developers can collaborate on coding and designing activities. For instance, developers drag new components from Figma into their application to keep in sync with changes in designs. The finished UI is automatically converted into TypeScript or JavaScript. So, developers have full control over the function and design of the app.

According to Amazon CTO Werner Vogels, Amplify Studio is still a developer-first service, mainly including front-end engineers. So, apps still need some manual code written, and developers can easily export apps into the existing DevOps pipeline. With this, AWS Amplify Studio has become one of the best low-code development platforms.

As of now, AWS Amplify Studio is accessible in the following 18 AWS locations:

  1. North Virginia

  2. Ohio

  3. Oregon

  4. North California

  5. Mumbai – India

  6. Seoul - South Korea

  7. Singapore

  8. Sydney – Australia

  9. Tokyo

  10. Central Canada

  11. Milan

  12. Frankfurt – Germany

  13. Ireland

  14. London – Europe

  15. Paris

  16. Stockholm – Europe

  17. Bahrain

  18. São Paulo - South America

Key Benefits of AWS Amplify Studio

As mentioned above, AWS Amplify Studio helps developers build and ship mobile and web apps in hours. In addition, you can create a rich and highly intuitive user interface (UI) with React components. And, for all this, you do not require expertise with cloud or AWS.

  • Pixel-perfect UIs: Convert Figma designs into reusable React components without writing huge chunks of code.

  • Faster backend infrastructure: Configure scalable backends to full-stack apps with a few clicks.

  • Easy binding between UI and data: Connect your UI components to the backend using an easy-to-use point-and-click interface.

  • Better team collaboration: Connect your design, development, and product teams while implementing centralized workflows and avoid costly rework.

Final Words

Before Amazon, Microsoft launched PowerApps in 2015, allowing developers to develop custom apps to solve business problems. In January 2020, Google acquired AppSheet, which consists of no-code application-development tools. Using AppSheet, developers can create tablet, mobile, and web apps using data sources like Office 365, DropBox, Google Drive, and other cloud-based and database platforms.
